Spring Into Greater Connection with Crystals & Plants

I personally enjoy caring for my crystals and plants; for me it’s therapeutic. I especially find during the time of early spring tending to my house plants keeps me content while waiting for the blossoming effects of the greater outdoors.

My Crystal Green Thumb…

Ivette Diaz, Plant Maven and Crystal Enthusiast

Growing up, I always saw my mother tending to her plants and garden. We talk, buy, share, and bond over our love for plants.

As a crystal and plant enthusiast I also view the connection with having a green thumb as a result of my overall lineage and island heritage as a descendant of Taino indigenous cultural of the Caribbean islands via the Arawak peoples who were the principal inhabitants of most of what is now Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and the northern Lesser Antilles.

As a people we’re natural stewards of the Earth which included plants, herbs and stones & gems.

How Do I Keep Them Alive?

Caring for plants comes with trials and errors. Yes, that means a lot of plants unfortunately, may not survive. However, just like animals they may require companions. That’s where a few crystals placed near them can help. More on that to come, for now, yes plants can bring joy and stress relief for some; others may find it overwhelming.

Finding the right plant to start with can be scary, especially if it’s new to you.

I recommend starting off with easy care, low light plants

Pothos, Philodendrons, or Sansevierias (snake plant).

Here are some care tips:

1. Water: All houseplant have different watering needs. Some require watering weekly, bi-weekly, or once a month. You can use your fingers or a moisture monitor to check their dryness. I personally feel it’s better to under water versus over watering your plants. Over watering is the most common way to kill them. You also want to fertilize (feed) them according to the plant directions.

 2. Lighting: Just like watering, every plant type has different lightening requirements. Some prefer direct light, indirect, and some tolerate low lighting. You can use grow light to substitute if your space does not have proper lighting.

 3. Pots: Try to get pots with drainage holes to avoid setting water which causes root rot or pests.  If you prefer decorative pots, try using a nursey pot and placing them inside a decorative pot instead. You don’t always want to transfer your plant right away. They need time to adjust to their new environment.

4. Pest: Spider mites, white flies, mealybugs, and aphids can harm your plants. Try and control pests as soon as you see them. You will want to isolate the infected plant from your other plants if they aren’t affected. Spray them down with insecticidal soap or natural Neem oil. You can use a small bit of rubbing alcohol to wipe down the leaves. Treat weekly for at least a month.

 5. Cleaning: Dust regularly using a microfiber rag. You can place them in the shower and give them a good wash. You’ll also want to remove dying leaves. This encourages healthy blooms.

 6. Crystals: Plants and crystals have a deep, everlasting connection because they are natural elements that work best when paired together. A plant will use its grounded energy from the earth to keep the crystal supercharged and renewed, and the crystal will encourage the plant to be healthy and verdant with its high-vibrational energy signature. It’s a sustainable partnership that not only adds lovely hints of color to your home but also has the power to bring cosmic harmony into your space. A variety of Quartz crystals will increase light exposure to your plants as they generally hold more than other crystals. source: sunset.com

Here’s the Bottom Line:

You don’t have to have a green thumb to enjoy and work with plants and crystals. Following these easy steps as presented will help enhance the appearance of your home, boosts moods, and reduces stress and they also provide a spring like feeling all year round!
